Hooray, Polyvore!

Remember a while back I said I had joined Polyvore, a fashion collage website? The problem was that I wasn't able to figure out how to upload my set. But thankfully, I figured out how to do it, and here it is! This was my first set and I have more that I'll share with you later.

DIY Project: Coke Earrings

Memorial Day weekend is off to a sunny start. To celebrate, we popped open some bottles of Coke. I had a great idea to make an accessory out of these cute bottle caps. These earrings are trendy, really simple to make, and they're a great way to be "green" and reuse old things to make great new things. All you need for this project is two Coke caps, string, hot glue, and plain dangle earrings (you can get them in jewelry making kits and at any variety store.) To make them, thread the string into the holes of the earrings. Then hot glue the strings to the back of the bottle caps. Let them dry a few minutes and then you'll have a great, environmental accessory. Happy Memorial Day weekend to all, and be sure to stock up on Coke!

Summer Bathing Suite Guide

Summer is coming and you know that means swimming time. These are some of my favorite styles of swim suits like the halter, a classic one piece and bandeau. I really like the nautical print on the bandeau bikini. A cute style option would be to wear red flip flops and red Ray Bans. Click here to see the Ray Bans.

Great Vintage Store In My Town

I sincerely apologize for not blogging for a week. I was just so busy and honestly, it was hard to find something that would top my two part NYC posts. But yesterday, I was walking in my town and I saw this great vintage store Nikki Eve that I had never seen before. Inside were some really great garments. Some of my favorites were the great vintage jewelry, the soft sweaters (cashmere of course,) and that long satin dress. Partly, I like the store because it has my name in it! Anyway, a great find.

NYC Part Two: Masterworks of New York (and beyond!)

(1)
(2 and 3)
(4)

As you can see from my last post, I went to New York City the past weekend. After La Cage aux Folles, I went to to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw the American Woman exhibition. The exhibition showed the evolution of American fashion with beautifully crafted, absolutely stunning articles of clothing (works of art to me.) There were a variety of rooms, all showing different stages of fashion that were popular starting in the late 1800's. Some of my personal favorites were the Bohemian, the Flapper, and the Screen Siren. There was a souvenir shop for the show and I bought this great book. The book includes some of the items in the exhibit and many others from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection. From bottom to top the designers of these garments are Charles James (1), Madame Alix Gres (2), Cristobal Balenciaga (3), and Christian Dior(4). If you happen to be in NYC, strolling by the Met, you should definitely take a look at this AMAZING fashion exhibit!

La Cage aux Folles

This weekend I took a trip to New York City! My first fashionable event (I'll blog my second tomorrow) was the broadway musical La Cage aux Folles. Its a great show about drag queens. While we were waiting on line to get into the theatre, a VERY tall drag queen (her platforms boosted her up a few inches) chatted with us. I even got her picture. There were many spectacular costumes, but I wasn't allowed to take photographs inside the theatre. Maybe that's a good thing because if photos were allowed, this post would be ten pages long.

Do the Polka

The trend of polka dots can seem a bit "young" if not worn with much thought, consideration and simply good taste. Here are some Do's for the Dots.
Designer looking dress with a belt for shape exaggerations.

Patterned Dots with a mix of color and black.

Black mini skirt with black tights and pumps for a sophisticated look.

The Greenport (Fashion) Report

I was window shopping in Greenport (a pretty town a bit of a drive away) when I came across a cute little boutique. Its name was Impulse. I really like the blue and orange/pink dresses. The shaggy bag and the rolled up scarves are also great finds. I like that this store has COLOR. Sometimes good old black and white can get a little boring (don't tell Givenchy I said that!)

Collages and Blossoms

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while, but it's been a VERY busy week. I was going to show you my great new sets from Polyvore (the most time passing website for a fashion fanatic like me) but I couldn't upload them to Fashion Etc. Instead, this is my own fashion collage based on the prettiest cherry blossoms in town.

Today on the Mannequin

Today, the mannequin is dressed for spring. She's wearing an Abercrombie Kids floral button down and jean skirt, an Old Navy tank top, a Forever 21 neckalce, and Havaianas flip flops. Happy spring and keep your fingers crossed for more good weather.

Love it. Wear it.

Don't you just love these? Have I ever mentioned how much I like converse and knee socks? Its just the perfect combination. I really like the knee sock/heels/skirt or dress look. Here are some great examples:
